Team History
Team Founder Don LeBlanc

The FHC Crew Club began in 1995 with 7 boys. We traveled in the LeBlanc family van with 4 oars strapped to the roof (the only equipment we owned!) and any boat we could borrow at the regattas.

In 1996 girls joined the team and the program has continued to grow and prosper ever since. We now average between 80 and 90 members per year. The team is open to any student with a sincere interest in learning competitive rowing.

FHC Crew became a Varsity sport in 2001.  Thanks to the generosity of our team parents and other donors, and success of various fundraisers over the past years, we have acquired 8's, 4's, oars, coaching launches, a boat trailer, equipment trailer, tents and an assortment of additional equipment.  In 2002, with a major community donation and school district funding we moved to our own Forest Hills boathouse that is shared by all three Forest Hills High Schools!

Our coaching staff has grown from 1 in 1995 (founding Coach Don LeBlanc) to the current staff found on the “Coaches” page. These coaches work with crew members in smaller groups designed to prepare each rower to compete at his/her best. The team trains indoors during the winter months for conditioning, and begins practice on the water as soon as weather permits. Our competitive season begins in mid-April and ends in early June.

Over the past few years, we have had several athletes go on to compete at the collegiate level with some of them receiving scholarships from their respective universities and colleges for Crew.

All coaches volunteer their time for the love of the sport and the joy of sharing this opportunity with the youth of our community. Please support both the team and the coaches and attend as many regattas as you can.

The First Ten Years of Rowing at Forest Hills Central

Please click on the above for a wonderful review of the first 10 years of the program. Our sincere thanks to Bob Kullgren who compiled and produced the information as well as being one of the initial volunteers who helped make FHC Rowing happen.

 Boathouse History
The Forest Hills Boathouse was opened in April of 2002 and officially dedicated on September 24, 2002. The facility and docks were constructed during the winter of 2001/2002 with much help from the school district and many parent volunteers. The property that the boathouse sits on, nearly 3 acres, was donated by Mick McGraw of Eastbrook Homes. The rowing teams owe a great amount of gratitude to Mr. McGraw as well as Mr. Bob Kullgren. It was Mr. Kullgren who worked tirelessly to locate property for the teams. Bob was instrumental in clearing the way with the School District, Cascade Township, Rail America, the MDEQ and many others so that this outstanding facility could be realized. Without Bob's help, this facility would still only be a dream. The boathouse measures 100' x 54' x 14' and includes a 100' x 10' floating dock. The facility houses all the equipment and provides a home for the three Forest Hills High School rowing programs; Forest Hills Central, Eastern and Northern. The facility is used during the spring for the high school programs and during the summer and fall for off-season conditioning as well as adult learn-to-row programs and crew camps. Location The Forest Hills Boathouse is located at: 8400 Grand River Drive LeBlanc Row Cascade, Michigan The following links will provide you with maps, parking restrictions and pick-up/drop-off procedures during the rowing season: Map showing Forest Hills Boathouse Location Parking & Pick-Up / Drop-Off instructions Google Aerial Map Home of the Forest Hills Central High School Rowing Team
